Why did cortez want to call the aztec “new spain”

      The spanish took over the aztec Empire. (The Spanishes comander was Hernan Cortes) The Aztecs got conqured in 1521. Hernan talked to the other "local" tribes and made them turn on the Aztecs  and fight on the SPanishes side.

thats just a little "back story" but when the Aztecs got conqured Hernan wanted spain to have full control over that area so he wanted to call it NEW SPAIN
