Macedonians developed some of the military innovations like Greek phalanx, the sarissa, and aspis. The Phalanx was a formation of military men with heavy infantry equipment like pikes, spears, and sarissa. The sarissa is a long spear which was introduced by Philip II of Macedonian. It protected the Greek soldiers and made them strengthen the army by increasing the rows of weapons extending towards the enemy. And at last Aspis, a heavy wooden shield used by the infantry.

Alexander was the first ruler of Macedonians to originally plan to conquer Asia which he did with gaining victory in the Battle of the Granicus.
