On the eve of world war ii, world events forced the united states to cast aside its neutrality, traditionalism, and provincialism in order to embrace modernism, technology, and global power. this is signified in the design of the 1939 poster "iced a& p coffee" by whose strong cubist beginnings yielded to a stylized realism.
