What contributions did the toltec make to early mesoamerican culture?

The Toltec people created a refined culture, which included knowledge about metal smelting, stone work, distillation and astronomy. Its architecture and art reflect influences of Teotihuacan and Olmec culture. The remains of Tula, sometimes called Tollan Xicocotitlán, include three pyramidal temples, of which the largest is topped by columns 4.6 m high in the form of stylized human figures known as "atlantes" (warriors); it is believed that it was dedicated to Quetzalcoatl, the Feathered Serpent, deity that the Toltecs adapted from previous cultures and worshiped it as the god of the planet Venus.

In the Toltec state, the military caste, the imperialist expansion, the conquests and the tributes of the neighboring towns predominated. The Toltec society was divided into two classes: the upper group consisting of military leaders, officials, the supreme ruler and the priests, who were at the service of the military caste and were responsible for attending the cult. The lower or exploited class was composed of agricultural workers and artisans.
