What was the selective service system and how did it the united states meet manpower needs

The Selective Service System is a government agency that allows them to draft males into the military. Even though this started around World War I, it is still around today. This system involves a lottery system in which young males (usually between 18-25) are drafted (picked) to join the military. Once a young man turns 18, they complete a form so that if there is ever a need for another military draft, the US government will know how to contact the individual. Between World War I and World War II, this system helped to generate a huge amount of manpower, as millions of American men were forced into military service.
