The Thuggees were a cult of ritual assassins who preyed upon travelers. The consisted of Bhyns, Bursot, kachinee, Hutar, Kathur Gugra, Behleem and Ganoo.

The British were responsible for eradicating the Thuggees from India.

The eradication was made possible y the British Governor of India - Lord William Bentinck and captain William Sleeman.

It is to be noted that the eradication took place between 1836 and 1848.
