What was true about the government's reaction to the bonus army apex?

They were veterans of World War I,  had been promised a bonus for their service but the Government failed to fulfill this promise.
This led to the movement known as the Bonus MArches, where around 43,000 people marched together  and occupied washington monument to demand the bonuses that promised to them.
