The Middle Passage was the stage in the triangular trade during which kidnapped African people were taken to the New World in order to be sold as slaves. During this voyage, it is estimated that about 15% of African people died, either as a result of sui.cide, sickness, or various other reasons. Many more died in Africa during the process of capture.
