According the two paragraphs I could to infer that the intention   of the teacher is tried to fit the knowledge in her pupils.

If this is the spirit of the teacher then Dave learned very well the invention of Benjamin Franklin to the point that he wanted to persuade readers to purchase it.

if this was the goal of the teacher, Dave reached it very well. In this context Dave was correct.
