At the end of the civil war, why would the confederate forces fighting in the west take longer to surrender than those in the east? native americans had taken over authority of troops in the west. communication lines spreading the news of the end of the war were slow in reaching the west. western forces were organized in a different structure and were tasked to complete different missions. confederate forces in the east refused to surrender, so they went west to keep fighting.
