(04.02 lc) why was the dred scott supreme court decision significant? it said that free people who assisted runaway slaves could be captured and sold into slavery themselves. it provided that any enslaved person who traveled into a free territory or state would be forever free. it gave free african americans the right to seek justice or compensation for their experiences in slavery. it ruled that african americans were not citizens and therefore had no rights or protection under federal law.
