Why did places like harvard support and perform lobotomies?

the answer to fill in the blank in this question would be the word resource, it is defined as the money, material or people (since human resource is a very valuable good) that a company or a person has at disposition (meaning they can use the resource as they see fit), to be able to complete a task or achieve a goal.  

some women in the middle and upper classes worked as doctors, government officials, or priestesses. both women and men enjoyed a better quality of life the higher they were on the social pyramid. the egyptians believed that their class system created a stable, well-ordered society. each group had its own role to play.
