Briefly describe the development of athens as a city state

There are two idiosyncratic topographical features that swayed the progress of the Greek society. After the development of myriad dispersed islands with a network of insignificant rivers, having an easy access to water exhibited that it may lead to the people being dealers and travellers. The mountains in Greece were also industrialized as a city-state.
