The Louisiana territory was under French control from 1682 to 1762 and 1801 to 1803, this area was named after french king Louis fourteenth. The territories of Louisiana included the drainage basin of Mississippi river, and was spread from the Appalachian mountain to Rocky mountains, from Great Lakes to Gulf of Mexico. It was divided into two regions. Upper Louisiana and lower Louisiana. The french had to cede east part of its territory to British in 1763 and the western part to Spain, due to the political turmoil of Europe Napoleon Bonaparte had to sell this territory to the USA.
