Check my paragraph answers for me! 1. Use the passage from Jacob Riis's How the Other Half Lives to answer the question.

"With no steady hand to guide him, the boy takes naturally to idle ways. Caught in the street by the truant officer, or by the agents of the Children’s Societies, peddling, perhaps, or begging, to help out the family resources, he runs the risk of being sent to a reformatory, where contact with vicious boys older than himself soon develop the latent possibilities for evil that lie hidden in him. The city has no Truant Home in which to keep him, and all efforts of the children’s friends to enforce school attendance are paralyzed by this want. The risk of the reformatory is too great." – Jacob Riis

In a paragraph of 3–5 sentences, interpret the passage in your own words.

My The passage given shows the consequences of child neglect and abandonment. On the reformatory, which should be a place to help raising this child, he would mingle with older boys who have become criminals and be under their influence, considering doing the same. At the end of the passage, it is said that this city in which he lives has no Truant Home to shelter him, and therefore the people responsible for making children attend school cannot guarantee that he will.

2. In a paragraph of 3–5 sentences, trace the impact of Jane Addams on the development of the women's movement.

My Jane Addams is a famous reformer in the Progressive Era and helps alert the country to issues that concern mothers, such as children's needs, public health, and world peace. She was also the first woman from America to win the World Peace Prize. In 1906, she became the first woman leader at the National Conference of Charities and Corrections.

3. In a paragraph of 3–5 sentences, evaluate the accomplishments of at least two African American leaders during the Progressive Era.

My During the progressive era, many reformers, educators, and journalists rose to the occasion to fight for the abolition of racism and segregation. Washington and W. E.B. Du Bois fought tirelessly for the rights of African Americans. Jim Crow laws, which emphasized the doctrine of separate but equal, were repealed, and equality was sought.

My The Spanish-American war was an armed conflict between Spain and The United States that occurred in 1898. This conflict originated after the US Navy ship USS Maine was attacked, and American newspapers claimed that the Spanish were responsible. This lead to the US intervention in the Cuban War of Independence, and ended Spanish colonial rule in the Americas, and US acquisition of territories in the western Pacific and Latin America. It also helped to unite the people of the U. S., helping relieve the tension left after the American Civil War and redefined national identity. Since after the conflict, the U. S. intervened in many conflicts around the world and entered many treaties and agreements.

I will give brainliest btw! :)
