Teddy kollek was the mayor of jerusalem from 1965 to 1993. After taking his post in 1984, kollek developed wadi joz, which was previously an area filled with car repair shops, into a much more pleasant space with hotels, homes, and commercial places. Kollek's initiatives turned out very well and they showed to the world that israel was working in the interest of the arabs in east jerusalem.
