Why history cannot be reconstructed?

for every scholar working with anceint history , the first thing to recognize is that our evidence is very fragmentary .In away we can never reconstructed history . because we dont have enough peices . it is like an archaeological excavation . if you excavate a temple you may find the foundations of the temple.
