How does the Bill of Rights protect individuals' civil liberties?

The Bill of rights protects some of our basic freedoms such as the right to bear arms, the right to freedom of speech, and the right to a trial by jury, also etc. Basically, the way the Bill of Rights protects individuals civil liberties is it puts a limit on the government's power towards its citizens and their lives.
