How did enlightenment ideals influence governments during the 18th century?

Enlightenment ideals inspired independence movements because people wanted to be removed from their European coloziners(basically the people in control). So basically you could say there was a lot of rebellion by revolutionaries and people of that sorts because they were tired of being under the sovereignty of their monarchies. Hope this helps!
