Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X are two of the most influential African American leaders of
the Civil Rights Movement. Both fought equally hard for the equality of African Americans, yet
had differing views on how to achieve said equality. Using evidence from Martin Luther King's
speech "Nonviolence: The Only Road to Freedom" and Malcolm X's "The Ballot or the Bullet",
explain their differing views on the use of violence in self defense. Full points will be given
to students who cite (1) quote from each speech as evidence and accurately and logically
