Following the end of the World War II, the Allied forces (dominated by the U. S.) occupied Japan from 1945 to 1952. As we learned in class, the Americans brought a vision of far-reaching reform and were dedicated to the demilitarization and democratization of Japan. Historians are divided on the extent to which the Occupation transformed Japanese society.
