The Mexican–American War, also known in the United States as the Mexican War and in Mexico as the Intervención Estadounidense en México, was an armed conflict between the United States and Mexico from 1846 to 1848.

America's gain was land.

Under the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, which settled the Mexican-American War, the United States gained more than 500,000 square miles (1,300,000 square km) of land, expanding U.S. territory by about one-third.

The Negative effects after the war with Mexico had a significant impact on America. There were two major consequences of this war for the United States. First, the United States got a huge amount of territory from Mexico. Perhaps most importantly, it got California, which soon became the site of the huge gold rush of 1849.
