Thomas Jefferson was a politician and writer who greatly influenced the development of the American government. A perfect example of this would be his work on the Declaration of Independence.

This document is vital to America's government, as it officially announces the breakup of the American colonists and Great Britain. Along with this, the Declaration of Independence also lists rights that all men have. This includes "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness." These ideas would be included in the US Constitution when it is officially ratified in 1789.

Thomas Jefferson was the nation's first secretary of state (1789-94); second vice president (1797-1801); and, as the third president of the United States (1801-09), he was a major aspect in the Louisiana Purchase. He created the author of the Declaration of Independence and the Statute of Virginia for Religious Freedom.

in this way, the phrase  “where they burn books, they will also ultimately burn people.” is both literal and figurative.
