Explanation:  Julius Caesar performed the reform of the Roman calendar 46 BC, and proposed a new reformed calendar that officially became the calendar of the Roman Empire in 45 BC. According to this reform, there are two "types" of years, normal with 365 days, and a leap year with 366. Leap year goes after three normal years or as every fourth. This means that each year in a cycle of four has an average of 365.25 days. However, the Greek astronomers throughout the centuries before the Julian Reform knew that the average year is slightly less than 365.25 days, since the actual tropical (solar) years has 365.24217 days. This practically means that after every four centuries, the calendar year is about three days in excess. Because of this, Pope Gregory corrected the calendar in 1582, eliminating that time difference, which is called Gregorian calendar. Although the Gregorian calendar has a slight error of one day surplus every 3030 years, it is still in use today. The Julian calendar is still in use in the Eastern Orthodox Church, although not in all individual churches.
