Lucio Anneo Séneca, was a philosopher, politician, orator and Roman writer known for his works of moralistic character. Son of the orator Marco Anneo Séneca, was quaestor, praetor and senator of the Roman Empire during the governments of Tiberio, CalÃgula, Claudius and Nerón, besides minister, tutor and adviser of the emperor Nero. As a writer, Seneca went down in history as one of the greatest representatives of Stoicism. His work is the main written source of Stoic philosophy that has been preserved to this day. It covers both plays and philosophical dialogues, natural philosophy treatises, consolations and letters. Using a markedly rhetorical style, accessible and removed from technicalities, he delineated the main characteristics of late Stoicism, which together with EpÃcteto and Marco Aurelio is considered his greatest exponent.
