What economic and political conditions following world war 1 encouraged dictators

Economic recessions and depressions helped encouraged dictators following World War I. A perfect example of this would be Germany. Thanks to the punishments put on Germany in the Treaty of Versailles (treaty that ends WWI), Germany was forced to pay billions of dollars in reparations to countries like Great Britain and France. This debt caused a huge economic depression in Germany. The German citizens were desperate for a leader who would return Germany to their former glory. Through propaganda and campaign promises, Hitler became the dictator of Germany.

Political conditions also allowed for the rise of dictators in Europe. An example of this would be Benito Mussolini in Italy. After World War I, Italy had a terrible economy and a weak leader who failed at calming the fears of the Italian people. This weak government allowed for the rise of Mussolini who promised to take control of the government and help the Italian people.
