Explanation:

The main economic problem face by Japan during the great depression was lack of raw materials and it needed raw material such as rubber, oil etc to maintain the economic growth. The Japanese leaders felt that acquiring territories with abundant resources would help them to jump start the nations economy and hence it began to acquire territories first in its neighbourhood and later in South East Asia. It started its expansion plans by invading Manchuria  and installing puppet regime.  It invaded southeast Asia from 1941 to 1942 and captured British Malaya, Hong Kong and Philippines.
