Hoover was very nonchalant about the Depression, believing that it would go away and government intervention was not necessary. Instead he believed that charities and churches should be helping those in need. However, it became apparent that they alone could not help the millions of people starving and homeless. By then it was too late and the country was done with him. He lost reelection to Franklin Roosevelt.
