African Americans engaged in sit-ins at whites-only cafes. They peacefully sat down at counters where they were refused service. College students were the main participants. It gained the Civil Rights Movement massive amounts of publicity due to the outrage that took over the white community. A renowned protest called the Greensboro sit-ins is well-known in American history and gained the movement substantial amounts of recognition. Boycotts were used by African Americans to halt the income of several racist businesses by refusing to purchase or use goods from that particular establishment. One famous boycott was the Montgomery Bus Boycott, which was in response to the famous Rosa Parks arrest. African Americans no longer rode the bus, which caused detrimental financial impact on public transportation systems' income.
