How did the treaty of versailles deal with germany and how did many germans respond?

Article 231 (War Guilt clause) meant that germany had to accept the blame for starting the war. Many Germans especially nationalists despised this as it meant that Germany was shamed and they didn't believe they started the war.

Territorial losses meant that Germany lost approx. 700, 000km^2 of German territory and all of its colonies. Germany was very nationalistic and they loves their country, also colonies were seen as prestigious and the loss of colonies was shameful.
lost 75% of iron core, 68% of zinc core, 26% of coal and 15%of arable land. So this affected their living conditions as they needed these materials for everyday living.

Germany had to limit it's army to 100,000 men and we're forbidden to use tanks or gas. Navy was limited to 15, 000 men and only allowed 6 battleships, no airforce or submarines.

Germany was forbidden from reuniting with Austria-Hungary. German like the Kaiser were put on trial for war crimes.
