How did President Woodrow Wilson’s hopes for the negotiations following World War 1 conflict with the realities of those negotiations?

President Wilson believed that on the basis of his 14 points it would be possible to overcome problems and animosity created during WW1. But, his peaceful solution of problems wasn't accepted by many countries, especially those who won the war. Britain, France and many others believed that Germany and its allies should be heavily punished. Therefore, most of Wilson's ideas were not accepted, and the peace treaty that was signed let to further conflicts and problems.
