I believe the early United States wasn’t a land of opportunity nor equality. Although we are transitioning to becoming one we aren’t fully there yet . When i think of the Early United States I think of the Royal colony/ Trustee era . I think of british colonization . After we were finally able to gain our independence, we engaged in immoral acts due to our ethnocentric modes of thinking. We adapted slaves in the south and treated them horribly . We caused generational trauma, African American disenfranchisement, and much more . Also when the constitution was made the first amendment right was Free speech . Our second amendment right was the right to bear arms . I happen to notice how the first five amendments barely have anything to do with human rights. The term the “land of opportunity” and “equality” only applied to white men . During those days even white women barely had rights . America was an anti-semitic, racist country in that time period . Many people weren’t treated fairly including the Native Americans who were on the land before it was “discovered”. America was not fair for all. It was a land of opportunity for white men. In 1892 when the pledge of allegiance was written it stated “With liberty and justice for all” which was never and is currently not the case .
