One way in which law enforcement was the responsibility of communities between c.1000 – c.1900 was the use of the hue and cry. This was when the victim or a witness to a crime raised a hue and cry by yelling to aware others in the town or village that a crime had been perpetrated. Anyone who heard the hue and cry was expected to pursue and help catch the suspected criminal.It was seen as being loyal to your community and was seen as a duty. This was overseen by the community and known as collective responsibility because the Anglo-Saxons believed that the whole community should play a part in distributing justice, and so law enforcement was the responsibility of those that lived in towns villages etc.Therefore, in this respect, law enforcement was the responsibility of the communities between the medieval and early modern periodExplanation:
