Put these in order for battle of Hastings please these are all wrong order I'm gonna number 1-18 and you put them in correct order. 1. Harold Godwinson chose to position his army on the high ground.
2. The Saxons formed a defensive shield wall.
3. The Norman cavalry charged the Saxons but did not manage to break the shield wall.
4. A rumour spread through the Norman army that Duke William had been killed.
5. William rode in front of his army, lifting his helmet to show that he was still alive.
6. William encouraged the Normans to trick the Saxons by pretending to run away.
7. Harold’s men were exhausted by the time they got to Hastings and were not ready for battle. Some of his best soldiers had been killed fighting the Norwegians in the north.
8. William assembled a great army and a great store of weapons.
9. William skilfully arranged his army in rows, archers, foot soldiers and cavalry for the attack.
10. Some of the Saxons chased after the Normans and were killed when the Normans turned on them.
11. The shield wall was partly broken and Harold had lost some of his men but they carried on fighting.
12. At a key moment in the battle, Harold was killed. Some historians say that Harold was hit with an arrow through his eye. Others that he was cut down by Norman knights.
13. Harold’s most loyal soldiers tried to protect their dying king.
14. William was brave and led the Normans to make a final attack and the Saxons flee the battlefield.
15. After 9 hours the battle was over and William, Duke of Normandy was now king of
England.
16. Harold’s two brothers and other English commanders had been killed.
17. The wind had changed at the right time for William. He was able to cross the sea and land in Hastings while Harold was still fighting in the north.
18. William had a large force of knights on horses (cavalry) which gave the Normans a lot of attacking power.
