Why did the due process clause need to be added even though it was already in the us constitution

No state will make or uphold any law which will condense the benefits or in susceptibilities of natives of the United States; nor will any state deny any individual of life, freedom, or property, without fair treatment of law; nor deny to any individual inside its purview the equivalent insurance of the laws.
