8. Nicknames "Bravo-Too-Much," he was a captain in the Texas Rangers, an officer in the Mexican War, and later led a group of "Forty Niners" from Texas to California.

9. This person was part of an early group of pioneers who settled San Antonio, and was also an eyewitness to the Council House Fight in 1840.

10. In the fall of 1836, he was defeated in a bid for the presidency, but he served as Secretary of State until his death on December 27, 1836.
