Samuel Sharpe from Saint James Jamaica was born

As he attempted to free his people he felt nothing but scorn

He left plantation life and became a preacher

He taught people the ways and acts as a teacher

He helped others protest peacefully and calmly at first

When the news of emancipation came with a burst

The strike which was caused then turned to rebelling

And the two week struggle which followed is both sad and compelling

And that's why today this sad song will be sung

Because in 1832 Sam Sharpe was hung

But his legacy lived on after his life was tracked
