The Treaty of Paris of 1783 marked the end of the American War of Independence, with the Kingdom of Great Britain recognizing the independence proclaimed by the Thirteen Colonies in North America on July 4, 1776.   Provisional peace treaties had already been signed in Paris by November 30, 1782, but it was not until April 19 that the British finally recognized their loss and began to withdraw from the United States. With the signing of the Peace of Paris on September 3, 1783, the war officially ended. The last British troops left on November 25, 1783. The peace treaty was ratified by the United States Congress on January 14, 1784.
