For quite a time, this Populist movement became successful, but it deteriorated gradually. There have been some explanations behind the Populist group 's downfall.

One explanation is about the working class 'needs as well as the growers' requirements. The farmers needed monetary and fiscal policy which would increase crop prices. They request the state to have places whereby farmers can store their stocks before agricultural prices increase.

Since the elections of 1896, the economy changed, another cause that harmed the Populist Party which contributed to its downfall. As a consequence, the monetary base, that had been a major trend of the Populist Party, had little need to raise.

3) kansas- nebraska act- disagreements over whether or not kansas and nebraska would be free or slave states caused issues between northern and southern politicians in congress.

4) bleeding kansas- this fighting took place in kansas after congress allowed this territory to vote on whether or not they would have slavery. citizens were killed and buildings were destroyed during this fighting.
