It was hard for those who were initially accused to defend themselves, as the town was already experiencing hardships and believed heavily in witchcraft, so much so that when one made an accusation without evidence, they were still believed.

i believe the correct answer is option b. most eastern european nations joined nato.

though i could be wrong, option d. the eastern european nations were granted complete independence, would be another choice.
