Africa runs 4760 miles from the Mediterranean to Cape of Good Hope.  It is the second largest continent in the world after Eurasia, both in terms of area and population. The north of Africa is washed by the Mediterranean Sea, and the northeast by Africa is separated from Asia by the Suez Canal and the Red Sea. In the southeast, the coasts of Africa are washed by the Indian Ocean, and in the west by the Atlantic Ocean. There are 54 countries in Africa, grouped into five regions. These regions are North Africa, West Africa, Central Africa, East Africa and South Africa. 32 African countries are on the list of the 50 poorest countries of the world.

Africa is crossed by the equator, which divides it into two almost equal parts. As a result, most of the continent is located between the northern and southern tropics, and the continent is characterized by a warm tropical climate.
