What were some of the costs (both financial and social) of the Civil War in the United States?

United States defeated the Confederate States. In the end, the states that were in rebellion were readmitted to the United States, and the institution of slavery was abolished nation-wide. But financially the economy kept booming, but the south had to do more clean up as there land was attacked most of the 4 year war.
