Hammurabi's Code is a set of laws dating back to the 18th century B. C.E. In the introduction to the laws, Hammurabi states his goal to “make justice visible in the land, to destroy the wicked person and the evil-doer, that the strong might not injure the weak." A copy of the collection can be found here: http://avalon. law. yale. edu/ancient/hamframe. asp. Feel free to read through some of the laws to get a better sense of them.

In a five paragraph essay, describe the purpose of writing down and organizing sets of laws, and assess Hammurabi's Code as to whether it is a just or unjust set of laws, and whether or not it accomplishes its stated purpose.
