Nobody was off the hook for what was going on in the colonies. In addition to being frustrated with King George, Thomas Jefferson and his compatriots accused the citizens of Britain of being " . . . deaf to the voice of justice and of consanguinity."1
Consanguinity is just a fancy word for shared blood. The Americans were upset that their "British brethren" had apparently forgotten that the Americans and the British shared the same ancestry.
