we pointed them north: recollections of a cowpuncher by e.c. “teddy blue” abbott tells us of the history of nomad cowboys in north america. as the   frontiers began moving west, trails of cowboys of the 1870s and ’80s drove herds of cattle from texas to the northern ranges and railheads, and then rode back south to do it again. they gradually pushed   native americans out of their lands, until in 1889 the   government transferred white   colonists the indian land.

mcsween, along with his partner john tunstall opened a store and bank within the range of "the house" and wanted to try and be the top dominate power within three years opening. "the house" didn't like this and entered into a civil suit with them.

the judge took in favor of "the house" and confiscated their store and took claim of tunstall's livestock. tunstall  went to oppose the taking of his land. when he went to challenge the "posse" that was formed by the local sherriff, and he was met with a fight and ultimately killed. mcsween was a former lawyer and tried to take the route of the law. he wrote letters to get warrants out for tunstall's killers. eventually, the violence escalated and this is how "billy the kid" began.
