Why were the states wary of establishing a central form of government? (Back when articles of confederation where still a thing)

the states we're sacred of a strong central government because it could've turned into a tyrannical government from which they ran away(great britten).

a. because the u.s. was the leading with the most technology, economy, etc. also was teamed with other allies witch boosted the economy and materials to improve technology and use it.
