What led the Catholic Church to push for a code of chivalry

The Code of Chivalry was created to provide standards of warfare as well as conduct in normal life. Conduct and rules of warfare were created so that battles and wars could be deemed just in the reasons for which they were happening and to ensure that wars were won in honorable ways.
