From what Scientists have figured out the most early gatherers would use blankets, slings and cloaks to carry things such as meat scraps, plants, eggs and even wood. Most Gatherers were woman because most hunters would be men.

Keep in mind, this is the point in history where simple tools were used and fire was just starting to be used for several reasons that benefited their community.
