Monrovia, the capital of the West African country Liberia, is named after James Monroe. As president, Monroe supported the work of the American Colonization Society to create a home for freed African slaves in Liberia. He also was the fifth president of the United States, James Monroe is known for his "Monroe Doctrine," disallowing further European colonization in the Americas. :)
