Conflict in a novel or story The incidents and events in a story are called the plot. Plot is one of the elements of a narrative that we have already studied. The incidents in a novel are often about conflicts and how they are worked (resolved) out. Four main kinds of conflicts: Person to person conflict o Two friends fighting or people in a contest Person vs nature People fighting ice storms to survive, sailors fighting against bad weather when they are out at sea person in conflict with an idea or society o When you learned about the Canadian Government in Civics and o Careers, you learned how some politicians fight to gain new rights and services for citizens. Person against herself/himself o This struggle happens inside a person. The inner struggles are often ↓↓the hardest. For example, when people experience culture shock they do not want to change. They do not want to adapt or learn new ways. In order to win the battle, the person must accept things and decide to change. ↓ Type of conflict Example: Person vs person Person vs nature Person vs society Person vs himself/herself (internal conflict)
